Association for Experience, Learning and Training in Youth Work (ELT, Vienna), Donetsk Youth Debate Centre (Donetsk, Ukraine) and Education Initiatives Centre (Lviv, Ukraine) are looking for EVS volunteers for the "Youth in Action" project
"Europe is more than Football 2012"
Volunteers will work with children and teenagers (6-14 years old) before, during and after the European Football Championship 2012 in Ukraine in two hosting cities – Donetsk and Lviv, bringing a spirit of international friendship to kids who will hardly have any contacts with international guests and any chances to get to the stadiums or fun-zones but had been waiting for the sport event for several years. Together with international and local volunteers we hope to create the spirit of international sport event for local kids and teenagers and learn a little bit more about Europe than only football.
Places of the actions are either school playgrounds or public parks where lots of young people gather. The areas of operation will be those with disadvantaged kids, more away from the city centre. The places will be decided together with the local municipalities. Operating hours will be mainly afternoon (after school, maybe early evening).
The volunteers will offer what generally is called "socio-cultural animation (or "playwork"). Playing several different types of games with the kids, according to the kids wishes and the practical possibilities and skills they have. Football can, but does not have to be a part of that.
The period of the service is May 2nd – July 30th 2011. Volunteers will work in small groups of 3-4 people always together with local young volunteers. All volunteers will work directly with children at least 5 days per week at least 4 hours per day.
